To my research group, on the occasion of Saraswati Puja

  1. You need humility for gaining knowledge.
  2. Your teacher CANNOT be your enemy : it is NOT possible in this universe.
  3. Ego can never be a part of the learning process.
  4. Research is a responsibility, NOT a status symbol.
  5. You are judged ONLY by the results.
  6. Self-scrutinize your work.
  7. Be self-critical without being self-deprecating.
  8. Admit mistakes without feeling ashamed : it is the MOST HUMAN thing to make mistakes.
  9. Be honest to yourself in research : any falsehood will rebound back to you since nothing/ no one will assimilate it.
  10. Aim for perfection all the time : NO MEDIOCRITY.
  11. Respect others : ONLY then you will get respect.
  12. Research requires extreme dedication.
  13. Research requires focused involvement.
  14. Research requires lots of sacrifices.
  15. The more successful you become, the more down-to-earth you get.
  16. Hard work has no other alternative. Period.
  17. God lies in details : increase depth and intensity of each of your endeavors.
  18. Snap out of your comfort zone : no progress happens there.
  19. Shallow information will not lead you anywhere.
  20. Get serious : your CV is your and ONLY your responsibility.
  21. Learn slowly and deliberately : knowledge cannot be rushed through.
  22. Assimilate and internalize the knowledge and make it your own.
  23. You and your knowledge cannot be separate things.
  24. Answer questions yourself : do NOT expect others to solve your problem.
  25. Be increasingly aggressive in your efforts to make progress.
  26. Perfection! Perfection! Perfection!
