Team Vortex, comprising of IIT KGP PhD students Mr. Y. Omkar Venkata (OENA) and Mr. Naveen Karri (RM School of Engineering Entrepreneurship), wins the Silver Award of INR 2,50,000/- at the KPIT Sparkle 2020, Feb 29 - Mar 1, 2020 at Pimpri-Chinchwad College of Engineering (PPCOE). The work was on extraction of hydrokinetic energy in rivers/canals by enhancing vortex-induced vibrations about a bluff body.

Family crisis : Mother detected with bile duct cancer. She had been complaining of acid reflux, nausea, vomiting since last three months. Having lost all appetite, she became a skeletal version of herself.
This month was spent looking after my mother.
Mother's chemotherapy begins at Eastern Command Hospital, Kolkata. Yes, it is tough on a 70-yr-old. The mid-cycle nadir saw her hospitalized for a few days. It took her another two weeks to restore her energy and stabilize her immunity.

August 2020
Mother's 2nd round of chemotherapy. This time it is oral chemotherapy. But she developed acute jaundice and this chemo was stopped in two days. She began having wheatgrass (gehun ka jawara), giloy (guduchi), apart from kaalmegh. The jaundice disappeared within 3 days. Her health improved steadily. She started regaining her lost energy slowly. Her appetite improved and so did her independence.

Mother's oral chemotherapy restarts. Below are the pictures are the final time that she cooked in the kitchen.

Blade fabrication begins : The 35 bulkheads of the blade fixed in sequence with individual pitch angles.
Made profits in the Bombay Stock market for the first time.
Restarted working out after 7 months.
Family Crisis Again : Mother hospitalized with cancer-complications. Post discharge, we appointed a 24/7 nurse to look after her.
November 2020
Began running. Started Loving it.

My mother's condition deteriorated further. Ascites continued. My brother-in-law drained her belly after every few days.
Blade fabrication Progress : with 35 bulkheads, the 3.3 m long blade was shaped with cloth, resin, and chalk.
Made profits in the Bombay Stock market again.
Bio-gas plant project : First survey for raw material (4 tonnes per day assured).

Formally stopped doctoral guidance at IIT KGP. Quit academic research forever, after ten long years. That part of my life was long over in mid-2017. Only some hangover activities were lingering.
Continued to run 3 times a week, and restarted yoga after 5 years (loving it, once again!).

An age comes when we outgrow our parents. We can survive happily without them. Their presence is a bonus. Just like any other relationship, this blood-relationship also needs to be moved on from, sooner or later.
Finally, for the first time, 14 years after receiving a Dual Degree in Engineering/Technology, do I feel like an engineer! Lag raha hain, abhi tak sab drama chal raha thha.
