Hum Saath Saath Hain : women on 24/7 duty.

Scene-wise rewind. All verbs in the present continuous tense (italicized) are women's unpaid labor.

1) Dream sequence : Sapna (Karisma Kapoor) serving bed tea to Vinod (Saif Ali Khan).

2) Mamta (Reema Lagoo) singing morning Bhajan with everyone gathered before her.

3) Bhabhi (Himani Shivpuri) carrying laddoos to feed everyone.

Here I am not listing professional duties of  secretary Ms. Rehana and Dr. Preeti (Sonali Bendre).

4) Sapna taking charge of the function and working on stage decorations of someone else's house.

5) Mamta, Bhabhi, and Preeti working in the kitchen. Women see standing much more often than sitting.

6) Breakfast scene. Epic Dialogue by Vakil (Ajit Vachani) : "....., Jahan ghar ki ladies aur bachhiyan humne apne haathon se pyar se khana khilaye, woh hi ghar 'ghar' hota hain". Meanwhile, all women on their toes simultaneously : Mamta, Bhabhi, Preeti, Sapna, and Sangita (Neelam)! Only Dadima is exempted because of her seniority. And all men sitting and waiting to be served, exactly like in a restaurant; even Vinod, who is neither bringing in the family moolah like Vivek (Mohnish Behl), nor is just back from the states like Prem (Salman Khan). Paradigm from Manusmriti : women express love by feeding others. The subconscious builds from the biological role of breast-feeding. Women are serving tea, sandwiches, idlis, chutney, somosa, halwa, the works. They are oscillating between kitchen and the dining area, bringing in fresh delicacies for the men to gobble.

Another dialogue by Vinod to Prem about Preeti, wen she is serving tea to Prem, "Ab lifelong aapko (Prem) inhe hi (Preeti) khilana peelana hain" = "Wife must be feeding the husband all the time".

7) Women taking the 24/7 effort to look pretty and presentable all the time. Men are pretty plain-dressed, even boring.

8) Sapna carrying pagdi-trays, helping around in someone else's house.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

9) Sapna bringing guavas for all children. Sadhana (Tabu) and Preeti making Rangoli. Women feel guilty if they are sitting free.

10) Preeti making Halwa to impress Prem. Typical validation-seeking mindset of low-esteem women.

11) On Rakshbandhan Day, Preeti and Sapna are arranging breakfast.

12) Women are always holding something in their hands (trays, food, fruits, etc) showing that they are 'busy'. They are scared to be labelled as lazy.

13) When Prem is leaving for USA, Sadhana is bringing his coat, Preeti is making sweets for him..

14) Mamata, Sadhana, and Preeti are serving breakfast to everyone. Women cook and serve, men eat and burp.

15) Sadhana is serving cold drinks to guests, and again on her toes in the evening at the dining table. Are women scared of sitting down and relaxing?

16) Yes, they are. When men approach the garden gathering, Preeti, who was sitting, gets up from the chair and stand behind the bench. Women are always forgoing / yielding the throne to the men. Why does a doctor like Preeti give up her seat for a useless brat like Vinod?

17) Sadhana is only standing and serving food around. How much these women 'keep themselves busy' in mundane tasks, when their robotic brains decaying! Where is her career? Did she do get educated when she lived abroad?

18) Preeti is hanging around in her future in-laws' house all the bloody time. Is she really a practising doctor?

19) Back in Rampur, Sapna is again serving breakfast along with Sadhana. Does Sapna go to college or no? How does she manage to come first in class? Did we see her sitting with her books? She is cookign and serving from breakfast to dinner!

20) Mamta is running behind Prem with food, trying to pacify his anger. Prem is sulking like a kid, and Mamta's mother-instincts are getting reinforced.

21) Preeti is serving food to the sulking Prem, finally pacifying him.

22) Sapna is serving tea to everyone and collecting the cups when they are done. She she herself have her tea?

----------------------------------------------------

Women are always on duty, never relaxing. She needs to work for 16 hours a day to match up to the monetisable value of a man's 8 hours of work. Therefore, a woman's labor is only half as good as men's. Also, families are built when women leave their parents and migrate to others's houses, and only then they sing together "Hum saath saath hain". There is a proper dialogue in the movie "Ek Ladki Apna Sab kuch chod kar aati hain". My question is " why does a girl leave everything. Why does her life has no ROI (Return on investment)?
